There are also natural caves where fishermen used to seek refuge. On the southside, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park. Beside it is a “Baluarte”, a historical watchtower built as part of a warning system to thwart slavers and marauders in the 19th century.

The serenity surrounding tiny Sumilon (meaning “take refuge”) is a graceful invitation to open air seclusion. The island’s breathtaking ocean views, lush tropical environment, and tranquil seas give you the space and peace to unwind.

Pulchra gets is name from the Latin word “beautiful” — and beautiful is certainly is. After an hour and a half trip in the monotonous road along Cebu suburbs, you reach a beautiful, peaceful garden filled witht eh songs of birds.

The reception area is a big and elegant, with a high nipa and wood ceiling, white marble floors and very attractive armchairs made of plaited wicker. You are welcomed politely and efficiently. The are seems deserted, though occupied by a discreet Japanese clientele. The resort has joint Filipino and Japanese ownership and was designed by the Filipino architect Joe Canizares.

The large swimming pool begins right outside the reception hall then lazily meanders up to Ventus, the main restaurant which it encircles. You can swim and then have a drink without leaving the pool — there is a bar on the edge of the water. The main restaurant opens onto the beach, which is unfortunately is made of gravel and not very pleasant to walk on. A much smaller restaurant, the Opus, is reserved for more intimate dinners. Another bar, the Luna Bar, recreates an atmosphere of outer space with its interior in shining pebbles — black on the floor, gray on the walls and blue on the ceiling — illuminated with hundreds of little lights. It is the only place where you will find a television set, as the primary aim of Pulchra is to maintain peace and quietness.

The Lagoon Suite Rooms face another swimming pool. The interiors are extremely elegant with white marble floors, beige sofas and attractive modern furniture. The rooms have adjoining terraces.

The Garden Side Villas and the Family Villas are cleverly concealed in individual gardens. These are big and have even the luxury of a private swimming pool. The Family Villas with two bedrooms each, have no doors to separate the rooms, yet privacy is maintained. The rooms are slightly lower on either side of the living room and each has its own bathroom and a large terrace looking onto the swimming pool but a private jacuzzi and a massage kiosk as well.

Special mention must be made of the bathrooms: completely circular in the Garden Villas, almost maze-like in the Family Villas with showers and toilets found in nooks and corners. The bathtub, on the other hand, is in a lush, outdoor patio.

Apart from the high rates, the flaw of Pulchra is its setting in an unattractive urban environment with an artificial gravel beach. But spending a weekend in Pulchra is a bit like living inside a lovely picture of an interior decorating magazines.

How to get there

By air and land, 75-minute daily flights on Air Philippines Cebu Pacific, Asian Spirit or PAL from Manila to Cebu. 1.5 hours by car from Cebu Mactan Airport to the resort.

This luxury hotel, under German management, is located on an island in the Ba of Badian. The resort is set on an 8-hectare property, 15 minutes by boat from the village of Badian on the southwest coast of the Island of Cebu. One part of the area is landscaped with magnificent, perfectly maintained flower gardens. The other has been left in its natural state.

You will first discover a lagoon and the mangroves with aerial roots, and an attractive white sand beach, recreated artificially after a typhoon destroyed the beach. From the beach you have a nice view of the mountain range on the west coast of Cebu, and further away on the right, the coastline of the island of Negros. As a welcome gesture, you are greeted by the sound of music and given the traditional shell necklace.

The 5o rooms, divided into 25 duplex villas with nipa roofs, are set in the middle of the gardens to take full advantage of the view of the mountains and the sea. Very spacious and bright, thanks to large bay windows, the rooms are furnished to provide maximum comfort. The use of capiz for windows, doors and the ceiling diffuse a soft light; the pretty wood floor and the impeccably-finished pale-bamboo furniture, all contribute to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. All rooms have luxurious marble bathrooms with bathtubs. The hammocks on the balcony invite you to relax and admire the view.

The main restaurant, located near the swimming pool, is a beautiful bamboo structure. The excellent meals are served buffet style. In the evening, musicians or folk dancers add a lovely ambiance to the settings.

The large, white sand beach, bordered by coconut trees is pleasant with its nipa parasols and its hammocks.

Children will love playing in the mangroves, accessible by walking on the stretch of sand where the water is shallow. A section of the beach, cleaned daily, is reserved for swimming.

Many other activities, including water sports, golf , and tours are offered, but at rates commensurate to the standard of the hotel. The many diving and snorkeling sites near Badian are well-known. A glass-bottomed boat will take you to Coral Garden on the other side of Badian, facing Negros Island. The snorkeling is fabulous at Moalboal, along the ridge 40 meters away from White Beach. Pescador Island, also in Moalboal, is well-known as a dive site.

How to get there:

By air and land, 75-minute daily flights on Air Philippines Cebu Pacific, Asian Spirit or PAL from Manila to Cebu. 3 hours by car from Cebu Mactan Airport to Badian pier. Five minutes by speedboat from Badian pier to the resort. (Transfer from airport is arrange by the resort).

Thrill yourself from the exciting slides, one could easily become captive of its surreal charms, or could be mystified by the splaying of vibrant colors on its stupendous skyline.

Villa Teresita was named after their mother Mrs. Teresita Santos. The Santos family was formerly from Bulacan. The family always enjoy of going out together for leisure and to rejuvenate. The business started when they came here in Cebu during the early 90’s. They built a house at Barangay Biasong Talisay.

They made 2 pools and 4 cottages just for family use, but surprisingly their neighbors noticed their pool and wanted to go swimming begging their owner to let them use with the agreement that they will just pay for using the facilities. As the years pass, they slowly developed, added services and enhanced the placed. it is now called Villa Teresita Resort.

It has more pools, restaurants, function rooms, 24-hour room service, videoke, disco (Saturday Only), billiard, laundry & pressing service, catering service for all occasions, and package tour accommodations. Villa Teresita has been known to the public for more than 10 years.
