The Villa Escudero Plantation and Resort is a self contained working plantation founded in 1872. In 1890 the plantation was acquired by Don Placido Escudero and his wife Dona Claudia Marasigan. Originally planted in sugar cane production shifted to coconut in the early 1900’s under the enlightened management of Don Arsenio Escudero their only son. In 1980 the plantation was opened to the public as a visitor attraction by the children of Don Arsenio and his wife Dona Rosario. It has since developed a worldwide reputation as a special, almost magical place, where visitors can experience all aspects of the Philippines - history, cuisine, dress and natural beauty all in one day. Villa Escudero is truly the Philippines personified.
