A private hideaway was what the Kroells first envisioned when they saw the land in Kaputian beach in Samal Island. They designed a few guest rooms, beach huts, and a dining room for family visitors on holiday. After 17 months of work, the Kroells are now opening their own Hof Gorei to the public.

Hof is German for farm, taking inspiration from a small dairy farm in Pinzgau region of the Alps in Salzburg, Austria. Gorei is short for the original owner Gregorio, whose land was later acquired by the Kroell family.

Supervising Hof Gorei Beach Resort is owner Jeanne April Celerio-Kroell, who after touring the world as an artist and dancer has come home with her husband to build an island home. The resort itself occupies three
hectares, and in the future the family plans to develop the rest of the almost 12-hectare property. The resort had its soft opening last August 12 and will start operating a 60-seater boat next month to transport visitors.

Groups of two or four can choose from six well-furnished bungalows to stay in, with prices ranging from P1,500 to P2,800 a night. The Gorei House
rooms with views of the hillside or ocean can be rented for P2,300 or P3,200 a night. Groups of up to 10 can sleep at the Buddy House for P3,200 a night.

Visitors can swim at the large pool, walk around the greens of the resort, or enjoy the collection of birds. These are a few things one can do, but when one
