Palawan never loses its appeal to locals and tourists alike. And for a number of reasons powder fine white sand beaches, colorful reefs, alluring islets, secret coves, jungle clad mountains and undiscovered islands on this long stretch of land, embraced by the South China and Sulu seas. Dubbed as the Philippines’ last frontier, Palawan has a land area of one and a half million hectares of preserved splendor. The weather is almost perfect, as the island is seldom hit by typhoons. The best time to visit is from the months of March to May, when the abundant flora and fauna are at the height of their beauty.

Puerto Princesa, the capital of city of Palawan and the cleanest and greenest city in the country, is more than just a jump off point to the other tourist spots in the province. Discover the little delights that the city offers by taking a day trip to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, where rare crocodile species are housed and cared for, together with other endangered wildlife. To get here, take a 30 minute jeep ride (about 20 pesos) south of Puerto Princesa.

Minutes away from the Conservation Center is the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, where 4,000 prisoners serving the last few years of their terms live freely in a 37-hectare penal farm. Prisoners life with their families, till the soil and earn money by selling exquisite hand-carved items made of mahogany.

Those were just of the overwhelming story of Palawan. Watch out for more! Photo Credit: JET_BKK

I’m interested on visiting Palawan next year, what is the best area to stay at and how to get there from Manila airport? Is there a plane that flies directly from Manila airport?
