Iligan City is a beautiful place, if you know where to go and you have friends to take you around the place. However, most of the questions asked from me from my foreign friends is: Is it safe in your place? I couldn’t blame them because travel advisories will really inform them that it is not safe to travel here. Let me just say, it is safe to travel here in Iligan City. It is not true that foreigners are kidnapped here and I haven’t heard a story that foreigners were kidnapped when they reached this place. However, it is always good to be aware of the customs and traditions of the people so that they will not be offended by what you do or say. It is also good to know where you go and you must have someone with you who knows the place.

I think travel advisories that says it is not safe to travel has good reasons but it is always nice to ask someone if it is true. People in the City are very friendly, accommodating, and hospitable. You will not be lost here. We speak English so communication is not a problem. My advice is that, when you come here, do not be so showy and do not brag that you are someone of importance just because you are a foreigner and that you should be treated like a king. Do not speak in a disrespectful language and do not do anything that will spell disrespect. Remember that your culture is different from ours and since we have Maranao’s and muslims here, you have to be more aware of their culture so that you will not embarrass yourself.

This is not to discourage you. This is only to give you a clue so that when you come, you will be ready to mingle with the people and be friendly with them but with knowledge and understanding of where you and us came from.

Come to Iligan City! I will welcome you here myself.
